Replay value
alright so i stole the name of this post from one of my good friend's/mentor's blog. fuckit.
Passion Pit - Sleepyhead (Neo Tokyo Remix)
here's a cool song that is definitely worth replaying:
Passion Pit - Sleepyhead (Neo Tokyo Remix)
i'm a little slow on what's "mad hot in the streets right now" as they say, so for all i know everyone could be sick of passion pit. however, i assure you this remix is dope.
i feel like every once in a while a group or person or whatever comes by that gives all the right ingredients but doesn't put them together right. and then a bunch of people come up and remix the tunes and all of a sudden they're excellent.
i thought passion pit was going to be like that but i haven't found any other good remixes... (still have my fingers crossed though)
also, here's a remix of one of my favorite tunes by the streets:
not the most amazing thing i've ever heard but i would imagine it's more suitable to hear at the club than the original (what with the more standard quantization of the drums and the um er uh bass line there... and less of mr the streets mumbling around on the uh beats there uh).
alright, well i would be stoked to hear it in the club/bar/house/party/tunnel party/back alley/in a car.
aaaaaaand for the sake of googlebombing here's previously mentioned good friend's/mentor's blog
RIGHT HERE
nvm i can't find the link... maybe next time.

a toast
"Let us toast to animal pleasures, to escapism, to rain on the roof and instant coffee, to unemployment insurance and library cards, to absinthe and good-hearted landlords, to music and warm bodies and contraceptives... and to the 'good life,' whatever it is and wherever it happens to be."

uh yeah, disregard this
soo... i feel like im going to get chewed out for posting this... it's pretty lame. but, im feeling pretty lame and i thought it was kind of nice to read. also: don't ask why i read the blog it came from
"Abruptly and awkwardly you kiss her right into her smile and maybe, sort of, that smile turns into a kiss for a bit then she pulls away, but not that far. You can't even tell if you're about to get the friends vibe or not. She laughs gracefully and says your name in between the ha has. You were the Fonze but now you're Richie Cunningham so fast. Like the birds in Hitchcock, your friends descend upon you laughing and play-fighting and asking the eternal party refrain: "Where are we going now?" But you can't hear a thing at all, like in the Daft Punk video with the Dog Boy when the sound gets muffled in the fridge."

more net art!
two pieces i thought were especially nice from wwwwwwwww.jodi.org
1 ____jodi
2_______jodi

this is also a nice one here
its from someone else tho
"Lucas Kuzma's mouse-position predictor tracks the movement of the cursor across the screen and offers predictions about where it will go next. The site appropriates the language of science and statistics ("expected vector," "weighted average," "standard deviation") as it purports to predict the unpredictable: the next decision of a free, impulsive human being. Kuzma's splash page raises issues of free will and determinism, as well as surveillance and privacy, since it reminds us that every movement on the internet is recorded. It is representative of the artist's interest in generative systems and their potential to create organic action."

frankie wilde and anatomy of pitchfork
I read this blog post just a couple seconds ago:
anatomy-of-a-pitchfork-record-review-or-diagnosing
I have no idea who any of the bands they reference are... but the review of the review is really sweet and I really dig the way the writer breaks it down. Very cool.
Also!
These fuckers totally stole my idea:
mixtapes
no, not really but i really do think tapes are great and that this is a wicked idea. and i cant say i dig it being that nauseating valentines day gimmick. but! it would be cool to go to a tape party where everyone brings a mixtape and then everyone just listens to mixtapes all night. that way we could take our eyes off the dj for one second and realize that there are all these great people on all sides.
not that i dont want to frankie wilde from it's all gone pete tong for one day, but... you know.
gaaah!

he used to go under the name mithra and produced a shit load of awesome stuff under that name as well. (my fav album of his is called nightmares death but my favorite songs are "stealing souls from machines" [cant find this one on the web. fuck!] and "blessed and blissed" [he's on ill and waw and sociopath])
he told me to download his illphabetik and weirdandwired mixes:

im going to listen to them tomorrow, in the meantime, im sure you can make your own decision whether you like them or not. they should be good, he's a wicked guy.

what do you do?
[edit: turns out that bit i just deleted may not have been true. oops]
what do you do when your "friends" hold that shit over your head and try to make themselves feel good for being your friend because they say "a lot of people hate you" at your school?
[edit: what do you to your blog once they apologize?]
nothing. that's what im going to do. just keep to my own and not bother with all the bullshit drama. we're not in fucking high school. this isn't fucking "cute", it's stupid. i wish everybody would just grow the fuck up and/or leave me the fuck alone.
[edit: this still applies ;) ]

i want to work on my music video. i want to release this album. the music is ready, its just sitting and waiting for everything else to be done.
i wish it was warm. i want a cigarette. and a coffee. i dont want it to be night time. i want to stay awake forever and not be tired and grumpy.
i feel like my fucking blog sounds like this: http://www.hipsterrunoff.com
i wish it wouldnt. i wish i could say whatever the fuck i wanted and i wouldnt feel like i'm being judged. or rather, i wish i had the courage to not care if i was being judged.

...im so confused

i just found out that the person that posts my favorite tumblr is 16. SIXTEEN!!!
wtf?!
im so confused... especially because im confused about what is confusing me about that. why cant she be 16? you dont have to be... not 16... to collect pictures on the internet. you dont have to be ... not 16...
this is totally making me feel like a pedophile or something.
just to clear up.
this person:
courtney
posts on the tumblr
waif & co.
i dont know. i just think its weird. especially because i've been checking these couple tumblr's almost religiously for the past couple weeks and have been feeling really inspired. and now i feel like that's not ok for some reason. that's its lame or something to be inspired by someone who's younger than you. you know, even as i type this i realize how ridiculous it is. fuckit. i still like waif & co. however, i've learned my lesson. im not going to try and find out who the people are who are posting on the other tumblr's i like. because sometimes... it's better to just not know.

btw! 2 new releases!
Here they are!
this switch:
http://illphabetik.com/releases.php?release=1382
mym_use:
http://www.weirdandwired.net/Woulg.htm
they were supposed to be simultaneously released, although you wouldn't know it. it was actually a bit of a splatter effect with the weirdandwired one coming out a LOT earlier than the illphabetik one. apparently there was a bit of a miscommunication on all counts. no biggie. they are out and i am proud of how they sound. hope you dig 'em too.
leave feedbacks!

i'm feeling a little down. at least my third life ended with a bit of a bang. i guess we'll see what happens in my fourth, frankly, im a little nervous. 7 years is a long time... a lot can happen. and i kind of feel like my fourth life is going to be my most important one.

good and haard.
...that's what she said. about this net label: http://www.zardonicrecs.ve.tc/
they were alright back in the day but their newer releases have been consistently quite good. and if you want something a little more chill i recommend downloading their various album or getting the fuck off that site. because its exactly like the name of the post says: good and haard.
also, apparently pk sound has a new website and they want us all to check it out. they make some pretty good speakers and throw some wicked ass parties.

i hope the dude who sent me this email is ok with me posting it on here... i definitely didnt ask him. sorry!

there was an ariticle in time magazine i think about it. apparently this one guy who was happy his entire life, very cheery fellow, wife, kids, grandkids, very loving wonderful guy, got it after a car alarm went off beside him... afterwards he told time magazine something along the lines of

not ok to have friends... .......... !?!?!?!?
all my life i've liked having people around. having friends to talk to. friends to share with, to listen to, to learn from. for me, the best way to solve problems is to talk them out. to discuss them and to bounce ideas around. it's not possible to do this on my own.
recently people have been telling me i need to learn how to love myself. i need to learn how to be alone.
i do love myself. i love my alone time. i love taking a break from all the bullshit. i make music on my own. i read on my own. i appreciate the world around me when im on my own. but why the FUCK do i have to sit and wallow in my fucking sorrow ALONE?
what is this horse shit?
how will i ever solve my problems without outside help? when you have a question in class do you go home and sit in your room alone and think about it? if you were writing your phd would you lock yourself up to "be alone" and wait for the answers and the knowledge to just come to you? ... or would it be more wise to raise your hand and ask questions? to learn from those who know the answers? or at least get their opinions...
so come over, hang out, meet me for coffee, or give me a call. but for fucks sake. dont try to tell me that i need to learn how to love myself.

NEW TRACKS on old space
myspace.com/notrebles
2 new ones:
Givin' It. - a Red Hot Chili Peppers remix. Glitch hop sort a thang goin on... its funky, there's a lot of fucking sidechain. hahahahahahah! MWAHHAHAH! but, regardless, turn it on, turn it up, dance around a bit. it will be a good time.
Hyup. - some diggable phidget haowse. i think. i dont know what house music is all about.. there's a new fucking subgenre ever god damn day. "wadda you gad damn kids call this shit?" i dunno. it's dancy, its funky. also conducive to "having a good time" as people seem to be calling it these days...
...so out of touch... but still so funky...
[EDIT: I took down givin it. but i put up a new one called "tick tick"
Mass Repeat says: "sounds like laid back oizo" and then "yeah this is a good one"
so there you have it. straight from the horse's, er i mean, a producers mouth]

-greg
